Turkmen and Afghan officials met to discuss construction of a temporary port for transporting TAPI project equipment

A meeting was held in Serhetabat, Turkmenistan, between representatives of relevant Afghan and Turkmen agencies to discuss the construction of a temporary port at the Islam Cheshme border crossing between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

According to the press release of the Afghanistan’s Ministry of mining and petroleum, the port will be used to transport equipment and pipelines for the construction of the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline (TAPI) in Afghanistan.

Both sides discussed the technical details of the temporary port in detail. The Afghan side expressed its full readiness for the construction of the facility.

After the meeting, the Afghan and Turkmen delegations visited the site of the planned port and the storage area for the pipelines and equipment transported to Serhetabat for the TAPI project.

The construction of the Serkhetabat-Herat gas pipeline, which is the main link of the TAPI project, in Afghanistan, started in September this year.

In October, at the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2024 conference, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAPI, responsible for the implementation of this infrastructure project, Mukhammetmyrat Amanov said that the security situation in Afghanistan is improving significantly, and this provides an opportunity to promote the construction of the transnational TAPI gas pipeline.
