Real Madrid announce the departure of Karim Benzema

Forward Karim Benzema is leaving Real Madrid at the end of the season. This was announced by the official website of the club.

“Karim Benzema joined to Real Madrid in 2009 when he was only 21 years old. He was a key player in this golden age of our history. In the 14 seasons he defended our emblem, he won 25 titles, a record number for Real Madrid: five Champions League trophies, five Club World Cups, four European Super Cups, four La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey and four Spanish Super Cups.

Karim Benzema is the fifth most worn player with our shirt with 647 matches and Real Madrid’s second all-time goalscorer with 353 goals.

Karim Benzema’s career at Real Madrid was an example of behavior and professionalism, representing the values of our club. Karim Benzema has earned the right to decide his future.

Madridists and all fans around the world enjoyed his magical and unique football which made him one of the greatest legends of our club and world football.

Real Madrid has always been and will always be his home and he wishes him and his entire family the very best in this new phase of his life.”
