The First Trilateral Summit of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkiye was held in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone

On December 14, 2022, the First Trilateral Summit was held at the Congress Center of the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone with the participation of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of the Republic of Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In the morning, the heads of Azerbaijan and Turkiye arrived at the “Avaza” Congress Center. Here, before the start of the Summit, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with the heads of the two friendly states.

Anticipating the forum, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held bilateral meetings with his Azerbaijani and Turkish counterparts here.

After the ceremony of joint photography, trilateral negotiations began in a narrow format.

During the exchange of views on priority issues of cooperation, it was emphasized that the Summit would significantly strengthen trilateral political and diplomatic ties, expand interaction in the trade and economic sector, investment, cultural and humanitarian fields.

Then the talks of the Presidents of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan continued in an expanded composition of delegations.

The parties discussed the development of a trilateral partnership in the economic sphere. At the meeting, the topics of expanding cooperation in the field of trade, energy and transport were identified as the most relevant.

During the talks, it was emphasized that cooperation between Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkiye is of a dynamic, strategic nature, both at the interstate level and at regional and international platforms. It was also noted that the trilateral format of interaction creates broad prospects for strengthening traditionally friendly, trusting relations and intensifying productive interaction.

At the end of the meeting in an expanded format of the First Summit of the Heads of State of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkiye, a ceremony of signing documents was held.

As a result of the first trilateral summit, the Joint Statement of the First Summit of the heads of state of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkiye was adopted.

In the presence of the heads of state, the following were signed: Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye on trade and economic cooperation; Framework program on cooperation in the field of science, education and culture for 2023-2025 between the Government of Turkmenistan, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye; Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Turkmenistan, the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Turkiye on the establishment of a joint Consultative Commission on Customs Cooperation; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Concern “Turkmengaz”, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkiye on the further development of cooperation in the field of energy; Memorandum of Understanding between the Transport and Communications Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkiye on the further development of cooperation in the field of transport.

At the end of the Summit, its results were announced by the heads of the foreign ministries of the three countries, who made a statement to the media representatives. As emphasized, the current meeting of the Presidents of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkiye has become a truly historic event, clear evidence of the inviolability of friendly and fraternal relations between our states and peoples.

It was noted that the agreements reached during the Summit and the documents signed will become a solid basis for the systematic strengthening and building up of a mutually beneficial trilateral partnership, entering its new promising directions, reviving the Great Silk Road, which, in the light of modern realities, is acquiring an important political, economic, social and humanitarian dimension. .

Upon completion of the Summit program, the Presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Turkiye proceeded to the International Airport of the city of Turkmenbashi and departed from Turkmenistan.
