Archives and archival work are considered to be one of the most responsible tasks in the world and play a very important role in society. There are currently special archives in any country where all information relating to the past history of that country is kept by archivists. International Archives Day has been set up to assess the work of archivists internationally.
At the International Congress in Vienna in 2004, the idea of creating a specific day to reflect the importance of the United Nations archives was raised by 2000 participants.
It was decided at the 2007 International Council Archives annual General meeting, that June 9 would be celebrated as International Archives Day. After that year, International Archives Day is extended for a whole week. So, International Archives Week is celebrated every year.
On June 9-11, 1948, the International Archives Council was established according to the result of the three-day meeting of the archivists. The purpose of this international council is to strengthen the relationship between archivists, in order to exchange experiences on archival work, and to explain to the public the importance of records and archives.
The collection and preservation of archival documents is also carried out on a large scale in our country. The Main Archive Department under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan is currently working on the collection of archival materials. Here is a summary of the glorious past and the present of the Turkmen people. The Directorate General of Archives also regularly conducts consultations on the importance of documents describing the historical path of our ancestors in the past.
