Internet speed record shattered at 178 terabits

Engineers of the University College London have developed a new technology and are the new holders of the world internet speed record.

By developing new ways to modulate light before passing it through the fiber optic cable, the researchers were able to increase the internet speed to up to 178 terabits per second.

Last May, Australian scientists, using a special optical chip that does the job of 80 infrared lasers alone, reached a data transfer rate of 44.2 terabits, breaking the world internet speed record.
