Online meeting of European Union and Central Asian Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs

On May 28, 2020, a meeting was held in a video conference format, with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan V.Hajiev, the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Ms. Helga Schmid and the Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asian countries.

During the online negotiations, the participants discussed the current state and prospects for the development of cooperation between the EU and Central Asia. The parties discussed the implementation of joint program documents and the realization of projects in the field of economics, energy, transport and ecology. Besides that, the implementation of the new EU Strategy for Central Asia and the joint activities planned for the near future were discussed.

Also in the framework of the discussions, the participants exchanged views on the issues of ensuring regional and international stability and security, the need to expand cooperation in combating the threat that has arisen in the world and minimizing the consequences of its impact on social and economic life in the region.

In this regard, the Turkmen side familiarized the participants with the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan to ensure sustainable and reliable international transportation in emergency situations and emphasized its readiness for further development of cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the EU.
